"Santa
Eulalia". is on the south east coast of the island, meaning if you can get
up early enough you can see some Great
Sunrises from the beach... of course it's easier if you haven't been to
bed.....

"Santa
Eulalia" is without doubt the nicest town in Ibiza and is open all year round. The
Main
beach gently slopes into the sea and is in a shallow bay with no dangerous
currents. The generally quiet beach faces east so you can sunbathe for most of
the day and watch the millionaires heading in and out of the Marina
on their Luxury
Yachts (only joking). Looking seaward is handy if you have young children
with you, its safer to be facing the sea at all times. There are no sun beds or
brollies to rent, making the beach look very natural.Parasailing,water-skiing,sailing,pedalo´s
and windsurfing is available but not "In your face" A public beach shower
is very welcoming.
Restaurants and bars although not actually on the beach are only a few yards away
over the paseo (pedestrianised
promenade).
A walk along this prom
towards Siesta will bring you to Santa
Eulalia´s secondary beach where sun beds etc can be hired. There
you will find the Balearic Island´s only River.A
short walk upstream to its source you will find a Roman
bridge. The river only flows seaward for up to 12 km after a few days
of heavy rain or when the miracle of technology happens and they turn on the new
pump which is capeable of moving 40 tonnes of water per hour.Bring a Fishing
rod and enjoy a few hours relaxation.Back towards the river´s mouth a smaller
bridge will take you to Siesta itself.Take some bread and feed the wild ducks.
Walking in the opposite direction at the end of the beach you will find a beautiful
marina where the rich and famous hang out in waterside restaurants and bars or
hide away on their monstrous great floating palaces. No fishing is allowed in the
marina so the mullet are getting fat on bread brought by tourists, boaties and
locals alike, the water boils as this is thrown in vast quantities
"Santa Eulalia" has possibly the best collection of good restaurants
on the island, an evening stroll down restaurant alley,Calle San Vicente, offers
pedestrians, on street dining, at over 25 multi cuisine restaurants and offers
a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere. Don´t be lulled into thinking these are
the only good restaurants in town, you would be making a big mistake.
"Santa Eulalia" is where the islands locals like to shop, street vendors
(mini hippie market) ply their wares in the
Plaza Espana
( Las Ramblas ) souvenir, fashionable clothes and shoe shops etc are spread all
around the town. There are plenty of supermarkets for the foodie shopping and bargains
are to be had in the off licences and perfume shops.
If you want to see some countryside, the train!!!,known by British locals as the
Wally Wagon, will take you for a two hour ride (by road) to the 16th century Puig
De Missa church which is picture postcard material when driving into Santa
Eulalia in the dark from the direction of Ibiza Town. Then a visit to the Ethnological
Museum before a relaxing ride through fields of fig, olive, almond tree´s
and Wild
Flowers and a stop for a refreshing drink.Back to Santa Eulalia.
Golf fans will find that Santa Eularia boasts the island's only golf courses,18
and 9 hole and the town also offers all kinds of facilities for nautical activities.
A very reasonably priced Ferry
Service will take you to other towns along the coast such as Es Cana,Cala
Llonga and Ibiza Town.If you are feeling energetic then a coastal path walk along
cliffs and through pine woods to Es Cana is a good way to see the area and there
are plenty of beach bars on the way to stop and rest. Buses and taxi´s are
available for the return journey. There is also a fast Ferry
from Santa Eulalia Marina that has a glass bottom that will take you to the neighbouring
island of Formentera which makes a great day out.
